  • 1 lb shrimp (uncooked, peeled, deveined)
  • 1 tsp dark chili powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp garlic (minced or 1/2 tsp garlic powder)
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • Juice of 1 lime (about 2 tsp)
  • 3 tbsp avocado oil
  • 1 medium avocado (seed removed and flesh scooped out)
  • 1/2 cup cilantro
  • 1 jalapeño (seeds removed)
  • 3 cloves garlic (peeled)
  • Juice of 2 limes (3 tbsp)
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 cup shredded green cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded purple cabbage
  • 810 small flour or corn tortillas (lightly toasted)
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together avocado oil, juice of 1 lime, dark chili powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, dried oregano, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, and kosher salt. Add prepped shrimp and stir well. Place in refrigerator to marinate for up to 30 minutes.
  2. Combine avocado, cilantro, jalapeño, garlic, juice of 2 limes, Greek yogurt, avocado oil, water, and kosher salt in a food processor. Pulse until smooth, adjusting thickness with additional water as needed. Set aside.
  3. Shred both types of cabbage using a mandoline or knife. Mix shredded cabbage with some of the prepared avocado crema in a small bowl. Reserve extra crema for drizzling.
  4. Heat a cast iron skillet over medium/high heat. Add marinated shrimp in a single layer; cook for about 4–6 minutes, flipping halfway until opaque and slightly charred.
  5. Assemble tacos by spreading cabbage slaw on each tortilla, adding cooked shrimp, and drizzling with remaining avocado crema. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve immediately with lime wedges.
